Smart, contemporary interiors with log fires, a garden with views and a proper gastro medley of great provenance - what’s not to like?

David and Gillian have created a 'contemporary traditional' style that flows together effortlessly. Those who just want to sup their Butty Bach or Otter bitter can retire to eclectic dining furniture. The main sweep has gorgeous limestone tile flooring and a mix of tables and chairs: a bleached wooden sideboard dispenses Provençal olives and artisan breads and beside it a stack of wine cases filled with bin end bottles – for later perhaps? The kitchen team (now with a dedicated pastry chef) serve up a proper gastro medley with homemade desserts, ice creams, sorbets and petit fours. Enjoy pan-fried Cornish scallops, pea mint purée, crisp lardons and tomato oil followed by crisp belly pork, garlic mash, pak choi, orange and ginger jus. There are log fires and, in the garden, one of the terraces has a glass veranda with a wood-burner. Welcome back!
