Escape to the edge of the Atlantic at this boutique hotel, bar and restaurant. Airy rooms, and good food from the terrace overlooking the ocean

Poised above the cliff edge, with a backdrop of rustic headland (an inspiring setting for platefuls of Cornish mussels), this glass-fronted edifice overlooks the ocean; a magical setting in all weathers. Lewinnick Lodge is large and luminous with a friendly modern vibe that attracts locals and visitors alike. Be wowed by a wall of glass, a sweep of oak, a sparkling bar, an open fire, and efficient staff who make everyone welcome (including the dog). Food is a focus here – it’s fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced. The dinner menus are pleasingly short and packed with fish straight from the sea, meat from the fields around and plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. They're open for breakfast too - enjoy it on the terrace when it's sunny: full Cornish, Mexican-style eggs and good coffee.

Local points of interest from Daniel Trotter:

Local points of interest from
Daniel Trotter:

  • Located on Pentire Headland with views directly over the Atlantic Ocean; dolphins, seals, oystercatchers, cormorants and peregrine falcons can be spotted from The Lodge.
  • Half way between Fistral and Crantock beaches, along the North Cornish Coastal path, take a stroll along this historic path with panoramic sea views and grab a well-deserved drink or bite to eat at Lewinnick on the way.
  • The Lodge was built around 1900 and owned by a boatman. At one point, it was occupied by the gardener for Lewinnick Cove House below - the house which was built on the wrong side of the headland!
  • The Lodge is close to the South West Coast Path - one of the UK's longest trails.
  • The Lodge has a sister restaurant with rooms called The Plume of Feathers in nearby Mitchell.
