You’re in deep country here, tucked away in a tiny village that loves its local, with good reason - spotless interiors and tasty grub

Chris, Angela and their friendly team run this ancient Welsh longhouse, tucked up a lane near the parish church, as an authentic country pub: unfussy, well-loved and honestly traditional. Find 14th-century slate flooring in the bar, tongue-and-groove in a room that fits a dozen diners, crannies crammed with memorabilia, an ancient curved settle, an antique reader’s chair, two fires and a happy crowd. Accompany a pint of Wye Valley or Three Tuns bitter with locally sourced steak and chips, sea bass with salsa verde, or a vegan or vegetarian dish. Or take a simple ploughman’s to a seat in the garden and gaze on the spectacular Radnor Valley. The menus change every six weeks; otherwise, life in this tiny village, like its glorious pub, remains delightfully unchanged. Spend the day exploring the wonderful Radnor Valley, or dipping into the shops of Hay-on-Wye.

"We arrived early and had to wait for the menu but it was well worth it. The Sunday roast beef was absolutely first class. Thinly sliced, cooked to perfection, just melt in the mouth. Proper Yorkshire puddings not just full of air and crisp roast potatoes with perfect fresh vegetables. The fruit crumble was light with excellent tart fruit and proper fresh custard. Definitely ten out of ten! The wine menu was well priced with a fantastic array to choose from. "

"The very epitome of an authentic country pub, time-worn and well-loved, welcoming and comfortable. The view alone is worth the visit and on a warm summer’s evening there can’t be a finer place in which to sup a well-kept locally brewed pint and soak up the open skies and deep peace. The food is a big draw too, fresh, local and well-cooked classics and more modern dishes. An absolute gem of a pub."
