How do you draw a crowd to a village in west Wales? You cook great food, add a little magic, leave to simmer, then serve with a smile

This is one of those wonderful places you come across once every ten years, the sort that makes no effort to conform and so brings to life a quirky style that’s delightful and authentic. It’s a temple to local food - a café, a restaurant, a deli, and a wine shop, though it’s not often you can sit in a wine shop, stick on a Bob Dylan LP and dig into glorious food washed down by organic wines. Its legion of fans come from near and far, with staff weaving through the throng to deliver manna from heaven. You’ll find tables crammed with delicious cakes; soups simmering away on the range; a fire and original flagstones in the back room; then a swish lean-to stuffed with curios and pot plants that opens onto a terrace. As for the deli, ‘we sell the food we like’ says Maryann of her culinary Aladdin’s Cave. Don’t think, just come, happiness waits.

  • We are located between two of the most renowned gardens in Wales - Aberglasney (The subject of the BBC series "A Garden Lost in Time") and The National Botanic Garden of Wales with it's Norman Foster designed glasshouse.
  • Castles are strewn along the Towy Valley, perhaps the most impressive being Carreg Cennan for the heady drama of its location but Dinefwr Castle is also Impressive, both are around 15 minutes away.
  • West Wales has an extraordinary wealth of beaches and beautiful coastline. Nearest is Llansteffan at the mouth of the River Towy and further west beyond Tenby you have the wonders of Barafundle, Bosheston and Freshwater West.
  • Llandeilo is a charming little town about 6 miles away with some interesting little shops like the wonderful Peppercorn - an aladdin's cave for kitchen waste and a great little bar and deli in the shape of the Ginhaus.
  • There are some great places to eat nearby - the award winning Y Polyn is just 2 miles away and further west there are the likes of Ultracomida in Narberth, Coast at Amroth and Pysgoty in Aberystwyth.
