On the hem of the Longleat estate lost in the country is this lovely pub. They're committed to good food: the kitchen turns out delicious, locally sourced dishes using meat and game from the estate. Fish is landed daily on the south coast. The wine list is long and they serve three ales on tap; one is their own - Horning Ale. Call in for a generous ploughman’s or beer battered cod and chips with minty peas. For special occasions book the private upstairs dining room with a roaring fire, sofas, record player and vinyl collection. Menus might feature seared duck breast with confit leg fritter, parsnip puree and asparagus. Soak up the sun on the tree-lined terraces or on the picnic benches on the lawn. There's a sandpit to keep kids entertained and a thriving kitchen garden to inspire you. Staff are super friendly and Longleat is at the bottom of the hill. Walk off lunch with a stomp up to King Alfred's Tower and around Stourhead.
