The George Inn - Pub in Sussex
High Street, Robertsbridge, Battle, TN32 5AW, Sussex
England,
United Kingdom

John and Jane swapped corporate life for this handsome old inn in pretty Robertsbridge. Working tirelessly, they have restored its fortunes as both an inn and a community local with a welcome for all. The bare-boarded bar/dining area is the perfect setting for leather chairs, painted tables and period pieces. Family portraits gaze serenely down as you enjoy a pint of Rother Valley Level Best or a glass of sparkling wine and get cosy by the brick inglenook – famously favoured by Hilaire Belloc. If you're peckish, look to the chalkboards for the day's seasonal dishes: locally landed lemon sole, Rye Bay scallops, slow-roasted pork belly with Bramley apple spiced compote. Or opt for a chargrilled rib eye steak with homemade pink peppercorn sauce and crispy chips. Leave room for lovely puddings, especially the chocolatey ones.
