Tramp through Pooh Bear’s 100 Acre Wood to this perfect pub for locally famous Buckhurst Park sausages and Larkins tipple. Delicious

Set back from the road, the striking façade of the Dorset Arms oozes history and charm. Inside: thick beams, wall studs, an ancient Sussex oak floor, and an enormous log fire in the bar. An ale house since 1735, its fortunes have been revived by the current Lord De La Warr, with Lady De La Warr lending her astute eye for detail to the rooms. Locals love the candles on old tables, colourful cushions on benches, and family paintings and photos. Ale from local Larkins, Tonbridge and Black Cat micro-breweries and a changing menu from the Buckhurst Estate. Try pan-seared scallops with smoked bacon, peas and saffron cream sauce, then venison steak with stilton mash, and vanilla panna cotta to finish. Or go for the locally famous Buckhurst Park sausages, made to the Lord's own recipe reminiscent of his childhood. Marvellous.

"Magnificent traditional pub restaurant lunch, with delightful local ale, marvelous bread and fish dish. The most excellent pudding of apple and apricot crumble, generous portion nicely served with crumble still crispy. In an age when so many pubs offer a sweet from the fridge, that attention to detail and quality of produce was just lovely. Good service too. Can't wait to go again. "

"This surely has to be the best pub in the SE. Sensational pub food with a quirky menu (the Oysters were the best I have had in a long time) at the correct price. I was in the area over Easter and went three times. On each occasion the pub was full and buzzy with a friendly vibe. Staff were v attentive and service was fast. The fire was roaring, dogs are allowed (important to me) and the new refurbished main room looked great- stylish but done without doing what so many other pubs have done by becoming too fancy or gastro. This is the perfect mix and a great place. Can't wait to go back!"
