Come away to the lovely countryside for good food, real ale, fine wine and a lot of fun and games. Walkers can explore for miles

Leafy countryside rolls away on all sides from a historic pub that has dispensed ale and fare since 1710. Inside, a huge inglenook warms wine racks with grapes from every corner of the globe while blackboards list specials and local events, including jazz and a monthly pub quiz. There's wood galore in the bar, painted, scrubbed and polished, and Pilgrim's Progress on tap. The dining area is slightly more formal, but the relaxed atmosphere reaches throughout. Traditional menus come with a Mediterranean twist and local provenance; nothing is served that comes from more than 15 miles away, veg is home grown and chef Nick Ash serves up heart warming food. The pretty garden will keep children happy with its swings and slides, watched over by the owners' nine llamas - who can carry your picnic to your desired spot - just ask...

Local points of interest from

  • There are 11 llamas on site at the end of our garden, which belong to the Merry Harriers, whom are able to go on woodland treks with you through the Surrey Hills "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty". Give us a call to arrange a meeting, and a trek!
  • Our Inn heralds from the 16th century, and the names of our previous landlords are painted upon the restaurant walls, starting with the fantastically named Absalom Bone, in 1710.
  • Nearby is the ancient Hambledon Church, in whose cemetery there resides a massive, elderly Yew tree, inside which a roost of bats sleep during the day.
  • We hold a monthly Jazz Jam, every second Sunday of the month, where local, and national musicians gather in our restaurant after lunch service to play together and entertain our visitors.
  • We also hold a Merry Harriers' Quiz, every second Tuesday of the month, with questions created by both residents of the local area, and by our staff members, always with a music round, and a variety of topics and knowledge that are tested for a cash prize!
