Historic town pub with contemporary interiors, fine wines, craft beers and delicious food – don’t miss the daily specials!

Almost lost to a fire which the community pitched in to try and prevent spreading, the One Bull run competitions to identify eco-friendly inventions and missions to make 'Gusto Go Greener,' involving locals of all ages. The staff are bright and knowledgeable, the food bursts with flavour, the wine list is well-informed. They're part of a family business including craft brewery, Brewshed: try the ‘American Blonde’. Inside: tiled floors, tidy tables, brown sofas and leather high chairs at the bar, all neat as a new pin. It’s always busy and no surprise: the food looks tasty and the menu's adventurous. Try beef scrumpets with root salad and horseradish vinegar then hake fillet with salsa verde. There are roasts on Sundays, cheeses from Suffolk and pud grazing boards to share. As for Bury, it’s a great little market town steeped in history.

  • The One Bull is approximately 600 years old and is one of the oldest pubs in Bury St Edmunds.
  • The One Bull stands next to the old abbey walls and its name is believed to stem from the Latin word 'bulla' which was a papal seal used on official documents.
  • Bury St Edmunds is home to Greene King and also to our craft brewery, Brewshed, whose beers can be sampled at The One Bull.
  • If culture is your thing, look no further. The town houses the Theatre Royal, the only surviving example of a Regency theatre in the country as well as award winning music and arts venue The Apex and the charming Abbeygate Cinema.
  • Bury St Edmunds has something for everyone - a beautiful town steeped in history, close to Newmarket and Cambridge with many wonderful independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. We love it!
