Walk the White Lion Way to find yourself at this smashing foodie pub tucked deep in the Staffordshire countryside. Ted, the pub's dog, will greet you with wagging tail while gin bottles wink from behind the bar. Choose a leather chair or scrubbed table and tuck into a dish of crispy whitebait or a burger inspired by the best one owner Julian ever ate, in New Orleans. Julian, Helen and the team love food and their passion for growing, rearing and cooking shines through. Our cod had been in the water just a day and a half before reaching our plate, tasting delicate and delicious. The pub has its own smoke oven which produces splendidly flavoursome meats, fish and cheeses. Dorothy Clive Gardens are close by, or tug on your wellies for a walk. Return for a pint of the house best bitter, or a glass of Forest Gin with a sprig of rosemary, by the fireside.

Julian & Helen Jackson:

  • Hanchurch Woods is an undulating Woodland comprising miles of paths popular for Walkers, Mountain Bikers and those wishing to enjoy the Great British Country Side with friends and a picnic - a ten minute drive from The White Lion at Knighton.
  • Bore Heath Battleground was the site of the start of The War of The Roses - won on the day by the Yorkists on September 23rd 1459. The Battleground is accessible by Public Footpath although the Audley Cross is located on private land.
  • The beautiful market town Nantwich is twenty minutes drive from The White Lion and is famous for its Listed buildings in particular Tudor and Georgian architecture as well as its annual Jazz and Food Festivals and International Cheese Awards.
