Behind unimposing white walls, a low-key village pub filled with music, laughter and fine wines – you’ll be welcomed warmly

A funky country pub, one of the best in the west. Its exterior gives no hint of the wonders within – part cider house, part cool hotel. Low beamed ceilings in the bar, high white walls in the barn. There are cute booths, David Hockney prints, 50s retro furniture, the odd guitar waiting to be played. Music matters here: fantastic jazz, blues and funk bubbles away nicely, while a small stage hosts the odd travelling band. Local ales, scrumptious ciders, Belgian beers and lovely wines (20 available by the glass) all wait, as does super food. Try a splendid fish stew (lobster bisque, fresh mussels) or Somerset beef with Yorkshire pudding and red wine gravy. In summer, life decants onto a long decked terrace that hangs above the little river; otters pass, fields stretch out beyond. Glastonbury and the Somerset Levels wait. Out of this world.

  • Watch A Flock Of Starlings Form A MurmurationEvery year between November and February, starlings flock together over the Somerset Levels & Moors to create huge and magnificent starling murmurations.Surely one of nature's best and most magnificent sights
  • Glastonbury Tor is one of the most famous landmarks in Somerset, if not the whole of the West Country. It's not just famous because it can be seen for miles and miles around, but also because it has huge spiritual significance for many people.
  • It is compact, with cobbled streets, medieval architecture and a market square, yet is actually a city – the smallest in England to be precise! Given this accolade by the commanding presence of Wells Cathedral and of course hot fuzz was filmed there!
  • Hauser and Wirth Gallery, Bruton A pioneering world–class gallery and arts centre in renovated farm buildings on the outskirts of Bruton. The gallery opened in 2014 and with several large exhibition spaces blending modern architctural design &listed barns
  • In Glastonbury, history, myth and legend combine in such a way that most visitors cannot fail to feel the “vibes” and powerful atmosphere of the town. Glastonbury the cradle of Christianity in England also reputed to be the burial place of king arthur
  • Montacute House is a magnificent late 16th century mansion with many Renaissance features. The Long Gallery, the longest of its kind in England, displays more than 60 of the finest Tudor/Elizabethan portraits from the National Portrait Gallery collection

Guest feedback
"The most unprepossessing front door leads into an area filled with weird and wonderful objects. It,s like a big toy cupboard which has been arranged with the help of magic mushrooms. The food is good and interesting and the beer is splendid. The whole place brings a smile to one,s face."
