The Barrington Boar - Pub in Somerset
Barrington, Ilminster, TA19 0JB, Somerset
England,
United Kingdom

The Hamstone building dates back to the 18th-century and you're greeted by the whiff of log-burners and the smiles of friendly staff and owners Victoria and Alasdair – she manages the front of house, he’s the head chef. You'll eat well: the restaurant has a delicious, seasonal menu mostly sourced from local farms but also foragers, brewers and cheesemongers living within a few miles. This is cider country so join an Apple Heritage Walk; explore St Mary's Church with its octagonal tower, or wander down to Barrington Court for landscaped gardens, orchards and the empty Tudor mansion (closed in the winter.) Puff up Burrow Hill for wonderful views; return for artisan gins, English sparkling wines and craft beers in front of the fire or out in the garden when it's warm.

Local points of interest from
The Barrington Boar:
- The National Trust property Barrington Court is an atmospheric fragment of old Somerset & a 15 minute walk away. Although closed until March 2022, its 4 artisanal workshops selling traditional handcrafted goods, including Barrington Pottery, are open.
- We are very lucky to be located 3 miles from The Somerset Cider Brandy Company, owned by the Temperley family, whose products can be sampled at our bar. Guided tours with tastings last approx 1.5 hours & can be arranged for a fee of £7 per person.
- Nearby East Lambrook Manor offers visitors a look around the English Heritage Grade 1 listed, quintessentially English cottage garden created by the celebrated 20th-century plantswoman & gardening writer Margery Fish.
- The ancient oaks of RSPB Swell Wood are part of a strip of woodland extending for 10 miles & are a 10 minute drive from us. Come to find nesting herons & egrets between March & June, & nuthatches & woodpeckers feed in the winter.
- We can help you to organise a bespoke truffle hunting trip with the forager who provides our kitchen with local Somerset truffles each week.
- The Barrington Boar is directly opposite the 13th century St Mary's Church with its unusual octagonal tower which has now been designated by the English Heritage as a Grade I listed building.
