Not-for-profit social enterprise bang in the middle of Oxford with a popular kitchen restaurant and a clutch of pleasant rooms

You land in the middle of Oxford at this quirky restaurant with rooms and find yourself surrounded by ancient colleges, with the Ashmolean Museum and the Bodleian Library both close. Interiors come in canteen style, with waitresses buzzing about, an open kitchen on display, a cool, shabby chic feel and happy chatter from people in for breakfast, lunch and dinner – this is a very popular community hub. Local food is sourced ethically and the menu changes twice a day, perhaps spiced carrot soup, steak and kidney pie, blood orange and vanilla cheesecake. There’s WiFi throughout, the daily papers, a first-floor sitting room straight out of a student house. It’s fun, easy going, a place for all. It’s also a social enterprise, with profits going to charity. Kick back, relax and be inspired. It’s a peaceful spot, too.

  • Head round the corner to Broad Street and join one of the free walking tours of Oxford. You'll discover fascinating historical and local facts. It's truly the best way to learn about town and discover some of the colleges.
  • You're a short walk away from Christ Church Meadows. If you're lucky you might spot a few grazing cows. It's the perfect place to stroll on a sunny days. Why not walk down to the river and see the college boat houses?
  • Punting is a favourite activity in Oxford. It's an amazing way to spend a few hours on a warm day. You'll enjoy the green and leafy canals. It's recommended to bring some Pimms and strawberries along for the ride as refreshments.
  • If the weather is grey, you can enjoy one of our many excellent museums. Our favourites are: the Ashmolean, the Story Museum, the Pitt Rivers and the Museum of Natural History. Take your pick, you won't be disappointed!
  • Explore Jericho neighbourhood for fun places to eat and quirky cafes. There's also some more off-the-beaten-track shopping to be done on Walton Street. We like Illyria Pottery.
  • Head to the Covered Market for some lovely local stores and an original atmosphere. We like Oxford Aromatics and The Garden (they do our flowers). Say hello to Bonners who provide us with all our fruit and veg. Objects of Use nearby is also worth a peek.
