A classic rubble stone 18th-century building is everyman's idea of a proper local but here you have a huge emphasis on good, local food

Luke Champion and Alex Vaughan are on a mission to give you smiley, well-informed staff, local and guest ales, a good selection of wines by the glass and a nicely eclectic menu of pub classics alongside some surprises: local producers, vegetable growers, butchers and bakers are trawled for the best of their seasonal produce. Vegetarians and vegans are not forgotten either - try a vegan Wellington.

Their selection of non-alcoholic drinks is also impressive with mocktails based on herbal Three Spirit. The bar area is lively and frequented by locals and visitors alike - Sunday lunch is impressive with sirloin of Oxfordshire beef, pork from a local farm, leg of Cotswold lamb. Finish up with something sweet from the expert pastry chef.

Spill onto the patio on sunny days for a generous paved area with painted garden furniture and a pergola.
