The Greyhound Inn - Pub in Oxfordshire
Main Street
Letcombe Regis, Wantage, OX12 9JL, Oxfordshire
England,
United Kingdom

This 18th-century redbrick pub is set on a quiet road in the heart of a small village close to the Uffington White Horse and is a popular draw for locals and visitors. Leading Oxfordshire chef, Martin Sherriff, produces locally-sourced menus that change with the seasons - whether you go for Duck breast, duck fat hash brown, Shropshire Blue custard, blueberry ketchup, red cabbage or Twice-baked Leonard Stanley Gloucestershire cheddar soufflé with smoked haddock chowder, this is cooking of a high order. Two-course 'Midweek Fix' menus on Wednesdays are a steal as is the weekday Lunch for Less. Pick up a map from the bar and explore the surrounding countryside – there are fantastic horse-riding and mountain biking routes too. Return for a pint in the back garden or inside next to the fire. It's exactly the sort of pub we love.

- Letcombe Regis, 2km from the historic market town of Wantage (birthplace of King Alfred) is the perfect base for exploring the landscape, villages and history of the Vale of White Horse, as well as visiting Oxford, Cotswolds, Berkshire Downs and Newbury.
- Letcombe Regis is a pretty Downland village within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the village has many thatched houses and a medieval church with a Norman tower.
- Letcombe Regis nestles in a valley below the Berkshire Downs and the ancient Ridgeway track, which runs across England, is 87 miles long and is frequently used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Nearby attractions include White Horse Hill (NT).
- Take the footpath to Warborough Hill above the village and enjoy dramatic views over the Thames valley in Oxfordshire to the north and the rolling and unspoilt Berkshire Downs to the south with miles of little-know tracks ideal for mountain bikers.
- Dog-walkers will love the huge views that can be accessed from the pub door. Circular walks to Letcombe Bassett encompassing the Ridgeway or the easier route, following Letcombe Brook through the Nature Reserve, are delightful throughout the year.
- Lambourn, known as the 'Valley of the Racehorse', is a few miles away and is home to many champion racehorses who can be glimpsed training on the gallops above Letcombe or trotting through the village. Newbury is also close by for racing enthusiasts.
