Saracen's Head - Pub in Norfolk
Wolterton, NR11 7LZ, Norfolk
England,
United Kingdom
Lost in the lanes of deepest Norfolk, an inn that's hard to beat. Outside, Georgian red-brick walls ripple around, encircling a beautiful courtyard where you can sit for sundowners in summer before slipping into the restaurant for a good meal. Tim and Janie came back from the Alps, unable to resist the allure of this inn. A sympathetic refurbishment has brightened things up, but the spirit remains the same: this is a country-house pub with lovely staff who go the extra mile. The bar hums with happy locals who come for Norfolk ales and good French wines, while the food in the restaurant is as good as it ever was, perhaps Brancaster mussels, pork belly with mustard mash, whole sea bass with ginger and spring onions, and seasonal game. Explore the coast at Cromer or play golf on the cliffs at Sheringham. Blissful.

- In Norfolk we have many different types of beach. Sandy ones for children, long deserted ones for the dogs and walkers, muddy and wet ones for the wild life and twitchers, ones with cliffs and pebbles and of course those with pine trees and sand dunes.
- The Saracens is surrounded by large country houses. Wolterton and Mannington are both within 3 miles. Blickling hall, the old home of Anne Bolyne is a 10 minute car journey or a beautiful hour long walk over the meadows and Blickling park.
- If you want a base whilst playing golf, there's nowhere better, with courses on the coast at Sheringham, Cromer, Brancaster to mention a few and on the other side there are courses just outside Norwich at Eaton, Wensum, Barnham Broom and The Royal Norwich.
- Norfolk is the place to visit if you like churches. Even the smallest villages have the most enormous church. visit Salle, Aylsham, Reepham (2 churches) Blakeney, Booton, Burgh and Brampton all within about 20 minutes drive.
- What to do on the rainy days? well Norwich is well worth a visit, with two Cathedrals, a castle, lovely cobbled streets and old buildings. The Theatre Royal has great productions or Cinema City. The Sainsbury Centre for visual arts is close to the UEA.
- All you need now is to sit down to a delicious locally sourced meal here at the Saracens. Being that we are in the middle of all this farmland we would be crazy not to make the most of all the great produce that is surrounding us! Great local food.
