The Tommyfield is a cool little find – a lively pub for a good pint, a restaurant serving tasty food, a small hotel with well-priced rooms that deliver in spades. It sits between Vauxhall and Kennington, with two tube lines to whizz you into town and three buses passing outside. Inside, you find wooden floors, high ceilings and the odd ionic pillar. Lamps hang above the bar where you can order a pint of Wandle and study the menu. Leather banquettes run along big windows, an open kitchen is on display, a couple of booths are nicely private. Tuck into old-school pie with mash or fresh fish (the pub is named after the site of England's first fish and chip shop), steak or a burger. There's pumpkin ravioli too, and Chateaubriand. Puds include banoffee pie. Tuesday is quiz night, the Oval is close for the cricket.
