The White Horse - Pub in Lincolnshire

When a village campaign to save this 18th-century local foundered, farmer Mark Richardson rode to the rescue – and how. The stoutly rustic Spinning Wheel has become the rather slinky White Horse, enlivened by what Mark calls a "meaty, manly menu" of Baston-reared produce and a smiling welcome from its young team. The bricks in the bay window are from the Richardson family farm, the stripped-back beams have been rifled from Grandad's barn, and (best of all) a handsome slice of felled sycamore serves as a counter in the snug. Mark's real coup, though, was tempting Ben and Germaine Larter to come run the place: Ben bossing the kitchen with a chef's eye, Germaine keen as mustard that everyone has a great time. Don't miss their exemplary Sunday roasts, super value and famous with flavour.
