Old and new blend splendidly at this welcoming 18th-century inn. Enjoy a pint in the panelled bar, dine in the chic restaurant

Modern meets traditional – in a handsome 18th-century coaching inn in a pretty village on the edge of the Ribble valley. There's a welcoming glow in the bar, with its oak beams and panelling, so get cosy by the roaring fire with a pint of local Thwaites Bitter and a crispy duck spring roll. Or eat in the stylish dining room with warm wood-panelled walls; local ingredients are carefully sourced and the food is wholesome and unpretentious. Tuck into the likes of ham hock and Lancashire cheese croquette with chilli tomato chutney followed by Bowland steak, kidney and Wainwright pudding with mushy peas, fat chips and a jug of gravy. Leave room for blackberry, rum and honey cheesecake with raspberry curd. Reopening in spring 2017 after a refurb, it's no wonder this is such a popular spot.

Local points of interest from
Tim Parker:

  • Our very own Daniel Thwaites is buried in the graveyard next to our inn, keeping his eye on our beer cellar.
  • We source all our food locally; from the meat in our dishes to the black pudding in our breakfast. All can be found from producers not too far away.
  • As the centre of the community of the village of Malham, we host many events throughout the year.
  • There is plenty of shopping to be done with many market towns such as Clitheroe and Ribchester in the near vicinity. For those who prefer the high-street, Preston and Blackburn are not far away.
  • We are located on the edge of the Ribble Valley Food Trail which is home to some of the North West’s best food and drink and most inspirational chefs, our very own Anson included!
  • Mellors idyllic setting in rural Lancashire makes it a walker’s paradise. From short strolls to strenuous hikes, there is plenty to explore. For those who prefer the high-street, Preston and Blackburn are not far away.

Guest feedback
"We had an excellent Saturday night at the Millstone Hotel. The staff could not have been more welcoming. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious and they did not need reminding that there was a welcome glass of champagne in the package. Breakfast next morning was also good. Great to see all produce is locally sourced. Rooms are compact but have everything you need and are spotless. Will certainly recommend to friends and hope to visit again."
