The Eagle & Child - Pub in Lancashire
3 Whalley Road,
Ramsbottom, Ramsbottom, BL0 0DL, Lancashire
England,
United Kingdom

It’s rare to find a place so committed to creating positive change, and we're proud to applaud the Eagle's soaring success. Established to tackle youth unemployment, disadvantaged young local people are trained in the kitchen here, and the service is faultless. Alongside community group Incredible Edible Ramsbottom, Glen has transformed former waste ground into a beer garden – a fabulous space for education, food production, drinking and dining – while the new orangery has floor to ceiling views that showcase the splendid views across to Holcombe Moor and the iconic Peel Tower. Menus focus on Lancashire's food heritage, with classic local recipes and ingredients given a modern twist, such as the award winning ‘Double Bomber’ pie made with Lancashire Bomb cheese and curd, and Thwaites braised onions. An absolute delight.

Glen Duckett:
- Eagle and Child is an old coaching inn built in 1820. Formerly known as 'Top Bunk' it was used as a stay-over on the trip to Strangeways and the old prison cells are still very evident today, but now used to store beer!
- We have fine views across Ramsbottom to Holcombe moor, part of the west Pennine moors. You can see Peel Tower from our dining room. A folly to Robert Peel, who started the police force, the tower is lit up at night and one of the fabulous local views!
- We have our own 'Incredible Edible Beer Garden' where we grow over 40 types of fruit, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers, all of which are used in our dishes. The garden was developed from waste ground and is one of Ramsbottom's Incredible Edible project
- We were established to help to tackle youth unemployment in our local area. Since we opened we have supported over 40 disadvantaged young people into work through our sister company EAT (Employment and Training) Pennines. Over 80% of our staff are under 25
- Ramsbottom is a great little market town with fabulous shops + events throughout the year. It was voted in the Top 3 best high streets in the UK in 2013! Annual events include a chocolate festival, pie festival, Ramsbottom music festival + a 1940s weekend!
- Ramsbottom is home of the legendary black pudding throwing competition where Bury black puddings are thrown at Yorkshire puddings. This refers back to the War of the Roses, when the Lancastrians took to throwing food at invading Yorkshiremen!
