Tasty seasonal food, home made treats for dogs, and bright, sunny bedrooms. An all-rounder for city escapees

If you're searching for an award-winning foodie destination in an historic spot, you've struck lucky. Welcome to a grand old pub in very pretty Wye, run by “a couple of down to earth boys from the North” (their words). Mark and Scott have created an up-to-the-minute village pub where you’re as welcome to drop by for coffee and croissants as you are to order a glass of Sicilian wine. Or a good, locally-sourced meal… Stour Valley venison loin with pomme maxine potatoes and remoulade and juniper jus hits the spot. It’s a cool place to be – suave pendant lighting, purple feature wall, central fire - but not so cool that they don’t keep dog biscuits behind the bar (made in-house by the chef). So settle into a leather wing back chair, rest your glasses on the vintage suitcase and soak up the vibe; there’s a welcome for everyone here.

Mark Lightford & Scott Richardson:

  • Owners Scott Richardson and Mark Lightford left London for some country air in 2011. Leaving their respective careers in music and fashion behind they transformed the former Victorian coaching inn into a leading foodie destination in 2012.
  • Numerous awards and critical acclaim garnered include winning Kent Life Pub of the Year 2017, scooping the no.25 spot in the prestigious Top 50 Gastropubs 2017 awards, and taking the runner up award for Best Sunday Lunch in the Observer FoodMonthly Awards.
  • Travel is easy: The M20 motorway is around 10 minutes from Wye and offers connections to the major UK road networks, and channel crossings to France and beyond. You can reach the Eurotunnel terminal by car in around 15 minutes, and Dover in 30 minutes.
  • Wye has its own own rail station so you don't need to rely on the car to explore. Catch a train to Canterbury, enjoy a day out at the seaside at Broadstairs. Try Margate for culture at the Turner Contemporary, or go high speed to London in only 38 minutes.
  • Kent is becoming renowned for its superb wines, so make time to visit one of the many vineyards for a tour around the vines and vats. We recommend Gusbourne for their wonderful sparkling Brut Reserve, or Hush Heath for their Nanette's Rose.
  • Must see adventures start at wild animal safari park Port Lympne (pronounced Port Limm) just 20 minutes away. Visit Leeds Castle and Dover Castle for you history fix, and shopaholics can do serious damage to their credit cards at Ashford's designer outlet!
