The riverside setting is idyllic, the food is delicious, the young hosts are enthusiastic, and you can stay the night. What a treat!

Getting here is half the fun, in the wilds of Herefordshire, and it could be tricky in the dark! In a pretty spot down by the river, beneath the Black Hill of Bruce Chatwin fame, the 16th-century Bridge started life as a house, achingly lovely on its river side with willows weeping down the footbridge. Walkers descend, so do dogs, and families and shooting parties, and Glyn is the nicest host. Inside, hops hang from dark beams and the wood-burner belts out the heat, there are solid wooden pews and scrubbed pine tables. It's properly pubby yet there is an organic and fine wine menu. Eat in one of two dining areas with contemporary colours on the walls: our pints of  Butty Bach slipped down nicely and our food – hake with seafood stew, and barbecue brisket – was very, very good.

  • Discover the Brecon Beacons National Park - its just out of our backdoor. Offa's Dyke path is about a 30 minute walk from the pub. We love to serve local produce and are surrounded by the beautiful Herefordshire countryside so have some great ingredients
  • Have a romantic evening under the stars, the only Dark-Sky preserve in Wales is situated in the Brecon Beacons, on a clear night you can see the Milky Way, major constellations, and even meteor showers. It’s enough to make anyone starry eyed.
  • Visiting fisherman love to enjoy the River Wye, the River Usk and also the Escley Brook with native wild brown trout. Llangorse is the largest natural lake in South Wales. It's famous for coarse fishing for pike. There are also perch, roach, bream & tench
  • Being located on the Border between Hay on Wye and Abergavenny we are the perfect location to discover England and Wales. So we can help you to decide where to go for the day. We just love it here, it really is the best of both worlds.
  • Take a relaxed stroll around a vineyard - Sugarloaf Vineyards (Abergavenny) offer self-guided & lead tours. Follow the vineyard trail and learn about the work that goes in to making a bottle of wine!
  • David Blunkett - Former Home Secretary, said "our Lamb was the best he has ever tasted"

"Had a wonderful couple of days in Herefordshire staying at the beautiful Bridge Farmhouse. Glyn and Gisela were the perfect hosts. Our en suite room was lovely and equipped with everything you could want. Really appreciated the fridge on the landing with. fresh milk and bottled water. Breakfast to die for. the Bridge Inn also owned by the owners is in a beautiful position by the river and serves excellent food. Will recommend this to all our friends."

"Just back home from a lovely weekend walking on the Black Hill and enjoying a wonderful stay at the Bridge Inn and Farmhouse. Michaelchurch Escley is a a quiet niche in the midst of beautiful countryside. The pub on the river bank is warm and welcoming. The food accompanied by the local brew - Butty Bach - was a treat after a day's walking. We went up the Cat's Back, yielding great views high up, and came back down by the Olchon; what an antidote to city living. Glyn and Gisela are natural hosts, so relaxed, friendly and helpful. Their farmhouse is a 16th century gem. We'll be back!"

"Proper pub, proper pub food, great walking from the door, a short hop to Hay for book buying and a very comfortable bed at the end of the day. Glyn is a warm host, his breakfasts set you up for the day. Brilliant stuff."

"The farmhouse is a great place to stay, and the pub is a great place to eat. Glyn, who runs both, obviously knows what he is doing and everything is very relaxed. Our excellent breakfast was served in the farmhouse. The surrounding countryside is gorgeous - we were exploring by bike, and the roads are quiet (but very hilly!)."
