Authentic pub

No-nonsense food (BLT, bangers, pies) soaks up a fantastic range of real ales and ciders in this joyful, pig-themed pub on the Cotswold Way

Nudged by a car park and Dursley's bus station is the charming Old Spot. Built in 1776 as a farm cottage, the pub has since gained national recognition among those who make pilgrimages to sample the brews. Indeed, the Old Spot has become something of a showcase for the beers of Uley Brewery, including Pig's Ear and Old Ric, the latter named after a former landlord. Real ciders include Weston's and Ashton Press. No surprise, for a pub named after a rare-breed pig, that there are porcine figurines and pictures dotted around, alongside old prints and posters. New head chef Ben is moving the menu up a notch and lunch sandwiches are terrific; try roast topside of beef with caramelised onions and mozzarella. Friendly, no-nonsense, traditional and on the Cotswold Way. For ale-lovers – a joy.
