The Tower Inn - Pub in Devon
Slapton, Kingsbridge, TQ7 2PN, Devon
England,
United Kingdom

Standing beside the ivy-clad ruins of a chantry tower, a flower-bedecked classic, a southern belle, loved by all who visit. Despite the hidden access and tricky parking, this 14th-century inn attracts not just locals but families from Slapton Sands. As for the low-beamed and stone-walled interior – all rustic dark-wood tables, old pews and fine stone fireplaces – it is hugely atmospheric by night, thanks to flickering candles and fires. Accompany golden, bitter-sweet St Austell Brewery Proper Job from the handpump with a plateful of Devon crab gnocchi, mussels in Addlestones cider cream broth, Start Bay scallops and locally-caught fish of the day. And for dessert, Salcombe Dairy ice cream from down the road; do book at weekends. A lovely, sleepy-village pub with a super landscaped garden at the back.
