Thriving village pub, transformed by new owners, just a short stroll from the train station. Families, dogs and walkers all welcome

On a quiet road through a thatched and flowered Devon hamlet sits the Duck at Yeoford, newly rescued and restored by locals. Sarah and James wanted a place where their young brood could be well-fed and run wild; the huge garden has a brilliant playground, and there are plans for a village shop. In the meantime, hunker down in one of the wooden booths and enjoy a pint of local ale (try the pub's own Muddy Duck) and a good lunch. Menus change with the seasons. There are chunky ciabattas, steak frites, fish of the day, baked Camembert, confit duck leg with cassoulet. Children have their menu, puddings are truly tempting, and the cheeseboard is a ode to all things local: Green’s Twanger; Vale of Camelot Stilton; Norsworthy goats. The Tarka Line runs through the village with walks from the pub along the trail to Copplestone and Crediton. A gem.

Guest feedback
"Sarah and James saved this place from development and have transformed it from down-at-heel pub to community hub - they've even opened a shop selling all the essentials out the back. Plenty of local Devon beer on tap, comfy, country interiors and smiley staff. Great for families too, with kids' menu and a brilliant playground in the huge grounds outside. Arrive by train into Yeoford, a 2-min walk."
