Stylish pub above fisherman’s jetty. Snorkel, then dine on seared Brixham scallops and lime crème brûlée - the bay setting is bliss

The Cary Arms hovers above Babbacombe Bay with huge views of water and sky that shoot off to Dorset's Jurassic coast. It's a cool little place – half seaside pub, half dreamy hotel – and it makes the most of its position: five beautiful terraces drop downhill towards a small jetty where locals fish. As for the bar, it comes with stone walls, wooden floors, rustic-chic tables and a fire that burns every day, but in good weather you eat on the terraces... start perhaps with seared Brixham scallops, follow with wild mushroom and pistachio roast, finish with elderflower and lime crème brûlée – served on white plates and as pretty as a picture. Then snorkel on mackerel reefs, or hug the coastline in a kayak.

Guest feedback
"We stayed Feb 2015! We saw your offer of 3 nights for price of 2 and contacted hotel; who only had the 2 for 1 offer on, but I mentioned Sawdays and they gave us a balcony room over looking the sea which was amazing. I particularly loved the lounge to sit in before dinner. Walking is for the fit but the cliff railway takes the strain and is yards from the hotel (uphill!). We don't travel by car and it is just accessible by train and taxi for a lovely seaside break from London"
