Once consigned to the scrapheap, this old boozer has been lovingly rescued and now serves hand-raised pork in a cosy traditional setting

This old boozer has been rescued and tenderly returned to award-winning life. In the old bar are beams, open fires, exposed stone walls and comfortable seating; there's an extra room, too, with scrubbed wooden tables and views over fields. Honest, straightforward pub grub flows from a spanking new kitchen, and everything's homemade and wholesome. Expect hand-raised pork and chicken pie; lamb chops with leek mash; goat's cheese and red onion tart. Local beers include Hartingtons, Wincles and the award-winning Thornbridge ales. There's a campsite and bunk barn on site and the stunning Tissington Trail is on the doorstep – just as well if you're going the whole hog and choose apple crumble and custard to finish.
