Grasmere is a honeypot village that attracts visitors as well as walkers and lovers of the lakes. Tweedies, named after a travelling salesman, is in the heart of the village with a sprawling garden that soaks up the splendid views. The bar is stone-flagged and solidly seated, with a focus on food and drink rather than fancy furnishings. Alex is passionate about his cellar and serves one of the best selections of drinks anywhere in the area; the walls display the labels from hundreds of beers offered over the years. Grab a pint of Hawkshead and head outside into the super grounds. Chef James, who cut his teeth in top London restaurants, favours local flavour and substance. Try a popular stack: goats cheese with poached egg, guacamole and red onion marmalade. Fell walkers can opt for slow-cooked Bolito Misto with crusty homemade sourdough.

Guest feedback
"Grasmere is a honeypot village in the middle of the Lake District and as such can be full of visitors and holiday makers, many of whom are keen walkers. Tweedies Bar is set up to cater for this with its simple setup: a slate floor and robust wooden furniture with the focal point a bar with many excellent real ales, ciders and other drinks."
