The Queen's Head Askham - Pub in Cumbria
Askham, Penrith, CA10 2PF, Cumbria
England,
United Kingdom

It’s a delight to sit down for a supper of 'super-posh' pub grub at this village inn. Pretty much everything that passes through the kitchen is reared, foraged and grown on the estate's farms. Charles, a committed custodian of the land, rears slow-grow breeds of beef, pork and lamb on the Lowther Estate. Then head chef, Anthony Amos, from the Michelin-starred Allium, at Askham Hall, dreams up satisfying menus using this superb local produce. Perhaps earthy truffle with creamy artichoke; roast grouse with turnip gratin and blackberry and fondant potato; hand-dived scallops; finishing with garden plum frangipane. Cosy up by the wood-burner, prop up the smart bar for a pint of local ale (always two to choose from) or glass of wine specially chosen by Askham Hall’s sommeliers. There are walks from the door along the river Lowther, glorious hikes in the fells and, of course, The Lakes to enjoy.
