Pheasants scatter across the fields and the views, on a clear day, stretch to Liverpool. Gloriously positioned on a former farm in the Peckforton Hills, the Pheasant has been stylishly revamped. The old laid-back feel has survived the smartening up of dark beams in bustling bars where pots of jasmine scent the air and Weetwood Old Dog comes from the cask; for sheer cosiness, book a table by a fire (there are three!). The food is more refined than your average pub grub, and is informally and delightfully served. Our lamb rump with broad beans, radish and apricots was full of flavour, our salmon with pancetta came with a creamy chive butter, and the sticky toffee pudding was pleasingly light. Deli boards and all-day hot beef sandwiches are also on the cards: just the job after hiking the Sandstone Trail.

"We visited for Dinner last night for the first time. To say we were impressed with the food and service would be an understatement! We were so impressed, not only with the high standard of beautifully presented, hot food, but also the staff couldn't have been more attentive( asking after ever course if we had enjoyed it) We really felt that we had been looked after the whole evening! Could you pass on to your Kitchen staff, and waiting on staff our appreciation? We will definitely be returning!!!"

"A lovely pub with rooms, which has fabulous views across the Cheshire below, seemingly hidden in countryside but actually within easy reach from the M6 motorway. Our room was in a converted barn across the courtyard. It was plain to see that the designer had made clever use of the building features using quality fabrics & materials. The dinner menu was full of original ideas which exceeded expectations. Service is very high standard. The steak suet pudding was to die for and for me the highlight was the cheeseboard of local cheeses. This establishment is a gem and we'll be staying here again."
