Coquilles St Jacques with a Provençal sauce, slow roasted pork with apple and sage, chocolate Amaretto truffle mousse... Foodie heaven

A small, traditional, country pub where they brew their own beer and serve fabulous food, most of it French. Richard and Heather had an award-winning restaurant in France for six years, teaching the French a thing or two about food. Inside, the bar is authentic and characterful – low ceilings, bar billiards, padded pews, armchairs in front of the wood-burner. It's delightfully refreshing, a proper country local untouched by interior designers! Pick up a pint of Sauvignon Blond or Mild Manners, then fail to resist the menu. You might find coquilles St Jacques with a Provençal sauce, slow-roasted pork with apple and sage, chocolate amaretto truffle mousse. On Sundays, in season, the roast pheasant comes with parsnips and chestnuts, magical stuff; there are good French wines to wash it down. Walks start from the front door with Cambridge waiting across the fields. Brilliant.
