The Royal Oak - Pub in Buckinghamshire
Frieth Road
Bovingdon Green, Marlow, SL7 2JF, Buckinghamshire
England,
United Kingdom

The old whitewashed cottage stands in a hamlet on the edge of the common – hard to believe that Marlow is just a mile away. It's a thriving dining pub (and sister pub to the Alford Arms, Herts). Beyond the terrace is a stylish open-plan bar, cheerful with cream-coloured walls, fresh flowers, rug-strewn boards, cushioned pews and crackling log fires. Order a pint of local Rebellion and check out the daily chalkboard or printed menu. You might start with breaded Cornish fishcake slider, mashed peas and tartar sauce before tucking into slow-cooked breaded lamb croquettes with sticky braised red cabbage, creamy mash and mint, saving room for lemon posset with hedgerow fruits and brandy snap cream. The sprawling gardens are perfect for a summer game of table tennis on the lawn. Book the posh teepee for a grand outdoor party.

- No trip to The Oak would be complete without a stroll round Marlow Common. A fascinating little slice of Chiltern beech wood that hosts 100 year old trenches used for practice before troops headed to France during the Great War.
- There's only one thing we love more than drinking & eating & that's shopping. So welcome to Marlow, only a mile down the hill - a shopaholic's dream destination! Choc-full of small independent outlets catering for every taste & style.
- We may not be next to the mighty river, but Marlow is defined by the Thames & it's beautiful & iconic 1832 suspension bridge. Tie in a walk along the Thames path with a lazy lunch at The Royal Oak or go crazy, rent a boat & help work up your appetite.
- Beer drinkers are well catered for in our area & we're especially lucky to have Rebellion Brewery right on our doorstep in Marlow Bottom. Pop in & meet Trasna & the team at their fabulous little shop where you can enjoy free tastings & buy local produce.
- No trip to the Thames Valley is complete without a visit to the National Trust's Cliveden. It occupies the most stunning spot, looking down on the river & is rare in that it's more recent history is just as exciting than in ancient times.
- Sporting enthusiasts abound in & around Marlow. Bisham Abbey, just over the bridge regularly plays host to national sports teams, whilst Henley is the spiritual home of rowing. So, do check out the cracking little museum in Mill Meadows.
