Quintessentially English 15th-century coaching inn with cosy bar, real ale, classic pub food and cheery staff

Step in the footsteps of former guest Oliver Cromwell as you stroll along Amersham's classy High Street and turn in under the archway, as customers have done since the fifteenth century. Horses were once changed here in the cobbled courtyard, while guests alighted from their carriages for refreshments; more recently the pub has featured in 'Midsomer Murders' and 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. This lovely inn retains its historic roots, particularly in the snug bar with cosy seating areas, fire nooks and bare wood floors, but black leather chairs and touches of purple velvet give it a modern twist. Welcoming staff and friendly Irish owner David offer Brakspear and Marlow Rebellion beers on tap, and classic pub food. Try the sharing platters, a locally sourced Wagyu beef burger or Rebellion beer battered fish and chips. Lots of gluten free options too.
