There’s something for all appetites - modern twists on British classics in the dining room, grazing boards and real ales for the rest

Originally an alcohol-free meeting place for Tyntesfield estate workers, this pub – free of temperance shackles since WWI – has been refurbished in playful Victorian country-house style. Reclaimed pine from an old Welsh chapel paves your way around an open-plan bar with scrub top tables, chapel chairs and old leather armchairs. Prints and oil paintings cover the walls along with reclaimed crystal and brass light fittings. The painted bar, imaginatively stocked, features their own Flatcappers Ale and other local brews. The Club Room – once the village hall – is the main dining area where menus are a traditional-modern mix, from hearty rib-eye steaks and ale-battered cod (with fat chips) to pork, butterbean and leek cassoulet. Grazing boards for those not up to a full meal are fun and convivial.

Guest feedback
"we found this place so handy to break our journey down to Cornwall. the staff were welcoming and helpful, the bed was really comfy and the shower larege and refreshing. We ate in the restaurant and found the food well prepared and tasty. My vegetarian partner had a risotto that was well cooked if a little tepid. The breakfast was generous and well prepared. "
