Babar - Pub in Berkshire
Elephant Hotel
Church Road, Pangbourne, RG8 7AR, Berkshire
England,
United Kingdom

With no fewer than 56 gins on the menu, it's fun to sit in this deliciously decadent bar at a table made from an old aeroplane wing, sampling a tipple or two. Make a meal of it with 'social plates' - macaroni and blue cheese; grilled asparagus and poached egg; smoked chicken and Godminster croquettes - hearty sandwiches at lunchtime, splendid salads (Caesar, Waldorf), and classics such as fish and chips, bangers and mash, and burgers. There's a big garden for summer days, with outdoor sofas, a suntrap dining space, and tables with wine coolers built in. Come in August for the Gin and Beer Festival, pop to Ascot to watch the racing, or bring the family for a cracking Sunday lunch. On chilly days, settle in by the fireplace with its beaten copper chimney breast, and tickle your taste buds with a cocktail or a pint of Good Old Boy.
