In one of the loveliest villages in Somerset, this pretty pub is causing a quiet stir with excellent food, a wonderful garden & sunny staff

Just outside Bath, tucked between fields and woodland, is the lovely village of Freshford and this gem of an inn where the food is fresh, the staff are friendly and the garden makes al fresco dining irresistible. Dive inside to the bar where local ales are on tap, or take a coffee upstairs where you can sprawl on a sofa. You'll soon be tempted back outside where the terraced garden (complete with fish ponds) provides picture-perfect views across the river and meadows to the woods beyond. Keep an eye out for one of their al fresco dining evenings; with the likes of lobster and fresh fish on offer, why would you resist? Children can choose from their own menu, while grown-ups might sample home-smoked sticky ribs, or the Inn's famous crab on toast (ours was superb). Great walks lead in all directions.
